LAKEWOOD – The Burlington-Edison High School girls’ volleyball team capped another outstanding season with a sixth place finish at the Class 2A State Tournment Saturday afternoon at Lakes High School.
Presented by Skagit State Bank, all four Tigers’ matches in the tournament were webcast live by SkagitRadioSports.com, with Darick Brewer’s play-by-play. Darick was joined Saturday by Sharon Mataya, and we thank both of our volunteer volleyball announcers for the great job they did!
Burlington-Edison finished the season with a 17-4 record that included the Northwest Bi-District tournament title, in which they shocked previously undefeated Anacortes with a 3-1 championship match win.
Playing in their seventh straight state tournament, Burlington-Edison opened the 2012 tournament Friday morning with its seventh consecutive state tournament victory, a 3-1 defeat of Sumner, by scores of 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, and 25-13.

The Tigers’ win over Sumner set-up a match of defending state champions Friday afternoon, and defending Class 3A champion West Valley swept Burlington-Edison 25-19, 25-11, and 25-21. West Valley went to win its second straight state title, losing just three sets in four matches.
